Pensieve > Could Be Worse...

Movie Three is due out June 2004, and I believe they started filming back in March. Because this is PoA they're putting on the big screen, it's only natural that we'd have some opinions on the matter. Namely, the casting.

I must admit, when I first heard who they had cast to play good ol' Padfoot, I burst out laughing. I knew who Gary Oldman was, and it amused me to no end. If you've never seen The Fifth Element, I suggest you pick it up. Mr. Oldman plays the badguy Zorg, looking really peculiar all the while. This being the most recent film I could remember him in, this scared me a bit at first. The character was a freak of nature and really irritating. Of course, a lot of that movie was pretty freaky, so that fit right in. So they cast a really weird guy to play Sirius.

Then it dawned on me: Sirius isn't exactly what you'd call normal.

We're talking about a guy who illegally became an animagus before he'd even graduated from Hogwarts, rode a flying motorcycle, had a family that was just horrid, and ended up being falsely convicted of murder and sent to Azkaban for 12 years, from which he escaped when no one else had ever done so.

I'd say that's pretty weird.

Now the only thing remaining was what he looked like. I don't thing Gary Oldman's all that good-looking, but the screenshots and photos I've seen weren't top quality. [And I refuse to go by The Fifth Element, since he was supposed to look extraordinarily weird.] So I'm going to wait until the first trailer come out, then I'll decide. Of course we've all got some sort of visual image of what the Marauders look like in our minds, so it's hard to compete with that.

Angie seems just fine with the casting of David Thewlis for Remus. I've never seen the guy before, so again I'll take her word for it and wait for the trailers. The HP movie people have done a bang-up job thus far with casting, so I don't have any complaints.

Well, maybe one complaint...

I've mentioned this elsewhere, I'm sure, but I'll bring it up again at the end of this rant. Whoever cast that particular actor as James needs to get their head checked. Whoa, did he ever look like a 40-year-old businessman... I think he's the only character that I believe was miscast. We got a full description we had of James in Sorcerer's Stone--everything except his eye color, which we finally got in OotP--, so they really had no excuse. I thought I'd survive the CoS movie without seeing that guy, but they managed to sneak him in at the beginning. Ask my friend Amy, I was most annoyed for the rest of the movie...when I wasn't being terrified of the spiders. [I hate the buggers. Have to side with Ron on that one.]

What I really want to know is if we're getting any flashbacks to the Marauder era in Movie Three. Maybe they'd get the casting for the younger version of James right, for my sanity.

But like Angie is fond of reminding me, I have no sanity left.
